  Double Celebrations for Jowat

"10 years & new plant in Malaysia"

Jowat recently had a double celebration in Kuala Lumpur to mark the 10th Anniversary of Jowat (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. and the Official Opening of Jowat Manufacturing (SEA) Sdn. Bhd.

The new production facilities in Malaysia represent the most modern design within the Jowat group of companies. The design and technology for this plant were developed based on the 90 years of cumulative experience of Jowat in the manufacture of adhesives for the woodworking, paper and packaging, automotive, and other adhesives.

Jowat hosted a luncheon reception and an open house at the companies’ premises located in Taming Jaya Industrial Park, Balakong. The Board of Directors officiated in the symbolic opening of Jowat Manufacturing (SEA) Sdn. Bhd. which was accompanied by traditional Malaysian lion dances and drums. The open house that followed gave the guests the opportunity to visit the production area as well as the R&D and QC laboratory.

The Chairman of the Jowat Shareholder Committee, Mr. Rainhard Kramme, outlined Jowat’s commitment to Jowat’s operations and growth in the region. This was further emphasized by Mr. Ralf Nitschke, Managing Director of Jowat AG, in his official launching address. The new production and laboratory facilities in Kuala Lumpur are set to become the Jowat Centre of Excellence in the Asia Pacific region.

The celebration ended with a grand and lively dinner reception hosted by the Jowat Board of Directors. The day’s celebrations were attended by more than 300 business associates including Directors from Edge-it, Surteco Singapore and Surteco Australia.

Fusion-Edge "invisible joint now a reality"

The Fusion-Edge developed by SURTECO for processing without glues or joints by means of laser application is almost ready for series production. The appearance of joints, which are an eyesore especially in the high-gloss boards, will therefore be a thing of the past.

In close cooperation with machine manufacturer HOMAG, the Fusion-Edge was extensively tested and optimised to be ready for the market. This new technology was presented by SURTECO at Interzum 2009 and a functional machine was operating on the HOMAG stand at Ligna Hannover the following week.

It is revolutionary, considering the process uses no conventional hotmelt adhesive, but laser welding to create a seamless transition between edge and board. The Fusion-Edge consists of a top ABS, PP or 3D base layer (which corresponds to a conventional edge) and a very thin functional special polymer layer colour-matched to the base layer.

The gluing assembly of the edgebander is replaced by a powerful laser. The laser welds the functional layer of the edgeband to the board to create a seamless joint - without any additional hotmelt adhesive.

The special thing about the new edgeband generation is the edge and adhesive are rolled into one. This does away with the any matching of edge, adhesive type and board. This again translates to increased production assurance and productivity together with better visual quality.

Digital Printing Technology

"photo realistic motifs on edgebanding"

Today it is possible to apply photo-realistic themes to edgebands for the first time. At Interzum 2009 in Cologne, SURTECO displayed for the first time digitally-printed designs resulting from a multi-million Euro investment in the latest digital printing technology.

This technology is predestined for production of very small batch sizes, not previously possible to produce. By applying innovative technology, SURTECO can provide the designer or architect with the necessary freedom demanded by modern design.

Conventional digital systems can only print on white, with unsatisfactory results for end-users. This quantum leap in digital printing technology, especially for thermoplastic edgebands, now permits risk-free transition from small batch sizes to large production lots. The production of design-orientated prototype furniture and later transition to series production is guaranteed.

The full advantage of digital printing technology will be available in early 2010.
